Rivers Inlet, BC at a Glance
Described as one of the most famous fishing destinations in British
Columbia, Rivers Inlet's visitors have a plethora of sportfishing lodges
to chose from. Located 483 km (300 mi) northwest of Vancouver,
expect to spend at least two days in this remote area, accessible only by boat
or float plane. This 48 km (29.8 mi) fjord is also a paradise for paddlers to
explore the vast area of inlets, rivers, estuaries and lake tributaries. Once
a prime spot for fish canneries, the inlet is now an untouched wilderness where
spotting bald eagles and humpback whales is common. The
Penrose Island Provincial Marine Park, located between Rivers Inlet and
Fitz Hugh Sound, is open for wilderness camping. A hatchery project, spearheaded
by two lodges in the area, provides lots of early season salmon fishing from
June to early August. Avid anglers can enter the Central Coast Salmon Derby
that runs from June to September.
